Moon, no problem.  If you guys email them to me I can post a poll for you.  You want it anonymous, right?

Also:

[insert shit-talking to Averydoll here]

^ Yeah.  It's like that.

Actually, we want you to post my story under his name, and his under mine. But, now that I've said it out loud, it won't serve its purpose.

Rats, foiled again!

So, yeah, anonymous.

On the heels of whatever just happened there with that 3-way Thunderdome I just participated in, but still feeling fairly confident, and after reading a separate thread...

Stratton, I Challenge Thee!

(in other words, I, too, need prompts in order to write)

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics April 2, 2013 - 2:40pm

I promt the two of theeseses... (assuming Stratton accepts)

Prompt: Just because you're forgotten, doesn't mean you're forgiven.

Don't we have to wait until he accepts on here to prompt?

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics April 2, 2013 - 3:27pm

Yeah, well, I blew it. Thanks for pointing it out, Dwayne. Thanks so very much.

The only reason I didn't think to wait was because Stratton had just finished asking to be challenged in another thread, so I assumed he would be ready for it.

Yes, otherwise it gives a slight advantage to the other two.

You guys work fast. I barely had time to get home and already people are waiting on me.

I accept your challenge, Sean and Strange Photon's prompt sounds good to me.

What's the deadline and word limit?

sean of the dead's picture
sean of the dead from Madisonville, KY is reading Peckerwood, by Jed Ayres April 2, 2013 - 5:09pm

Stratton - would you want to utilize the workshop or just go one draft and out?  I figure between 2500 and 4000 words, if that's cool?

Stratton's picture
Stratton from Phoenix April 2, 2013 - 5:14pm

I'm cool with one draft and out. Because of that, let's do a little longer than the standard week...say due by Friday, April 12th?

I've never done it before, so would you care to post the poll on the forum when the time comes?

sean of the dead's picture
sean of the dead from Madisonville, KY is reading Peckerwood, by Jed Ayres April 2, 2013 - 5:22pm

Cool by me. Stories due April 12th, by midnight? We will use strange photon's prompt. No workshop, I'll just post a poll after both of the stories are ready.

want it posted with the stories being anonymous, or should I put our names on them?

Stratton's picture
Stratton from Phoenix April 2, 2013 - 5:25pm

Not that it would probably matter, but let's go anonymous. Should I just email you my story when it's done? If so, PM me your email addy.

@Strange - Happy to help. Seriously though it was getting to be so common I wasn't sure I understood the rules, don't feel to embarrassed.

Strange Photon's picture

No, really, my tummy hurts. I had too many snap pea crisps and am now trying so hard not to fart, because I'm a gentleman.

wtf

Strange Photon's picture

Wait just a damned minute... You don't know what snap pea crisps are???

They're only the single best crunchtastic snack in the fucking world!

Eat too many, though, and they make you fart. Or, they make me fart at least. I can't speak for your gastrointestinal system.

Renfield, all going well with your story for tomorrow's deadline?

I've changed course, so I'm writing a second story. Not sure which I'll use yet...

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics April 3, 2013 - 9:13am

You could send me both, Sound, and I'd tell you what I think. I like being a catalyst in the lives of others.

Sound's picture

Hmm...I would, but then the anonymity would be blown. It's a tough choice, too. They're two very different stories.

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics April 3, 2013 - 9:32am

Well, I'd obviously not vote, and not say a word. But, it's cool, if you think I'm trash and not worth asking for help, that's just fine.

It's because I'm black, isn't it?

Sound's picture
Sound from Azusa, CA is reading Greener Pastures by Michael Wehunt April 3, 2013 - 9:35am

Haha...well, what if you really like my story over Renfield's, but now you can't vote? Then I'm out a vote!

(And yes, because you're black*)

*Not really.

Strange Photon's picture

I KNEW IT!!!

You racist pony motherfuckers always keeping me down! That's right, I didn't forget your equine heritage, you walking glue stick...

But, yeah, that's true, every vote is valuable. I totally get it.

Renfield, all going well with your story for tomorrow's deadline?

I've changed course, so I'm writing a second story. Not sure which I'll use yet...

I've got a thing that could be retooled in another session or so, or I might go your route too and see if there's a different story.

I thought it was the 5th we post the thing? Either way's probably okay, I'll probably be away from the computer Friday night anyway.

Strange Photon's picture

Fair point, man. If I stereotype all you racist ponies, I will be just as bad as you.

Look to the cookie, Elaine.

Yikes, I'm still working on my entry, I like working under word limits, but the time limit thing is what's really straining me. I tend to overwrite and convolute things then I go back and edit, this time I have to almost walk on eggshells, and keep things simple but not too simple. It's a great exercise and a fun way to do it too, with these battles.

I'm in the same boat Frank. My first decent idea came to me today. that's always my hardest part, coming up with the right idea for the prompt that I can write in a week at 2500 words. Unfortunately, I only gave myself two days to write, becaues the brainstorming took five.

I'll be pushing it close. Good luck to you Frank!!!

Frank Chapel's picture

Thanks,

Good luck to you too!

I'm seriously considering chopping it to 250. The challenge was "up to 2,500 words" right? *checks*

Jonathan Riley's picture

Fantastic. LOL, I love 250 word stories. Ha. But craft it as short as you like. There is no minimum.

Almost done. I'm excited.

Jonathan Riley's picture

I'm getting close. It's going to be a pretty rough draft, but hopefully a contender!

Frank Chapel's picture

Yea, mines rough too, i'm still erroneously beleiving I can go back and change the tense to better suit the story. Maybe.

I got it Frank. I'm still tweaking mine. I'm not going to look at yours until I'm finished. Also, I'll send you a copy of mine before midnight central time just so you know I made the deadline too. Hopefully I'll finish up shortly and have the poll up this evening. If not I'll put it up in the morning.

Did we move away from the original two-week Workshop/forum method? If so, I want a challenge. If not, I'm out, because I don't have a subscription.

Jonathan Riley's picture

@J.Y. I'm not sure of everyone elses schedule. I'm having trouble keeping up. Mine and Franks stories just went up and the poll will run for a week.

@Courtney, Everyone seems to be into a War/Thunderdome hybrid these days. One week, no workshop, anonomyous polls. So challenge away.

Okay, all that comes up when I google that is tent poles and Med Tent: How to Identify a Shin Splint. Am I missing something or did you just come up with that off the top of your head??

Either way, I accept!
