Sounds good. If Sound and Wildman don't work out, I'll just do a double, one-draft only challenge.
You ready, Rian?

We could do the standard 2,500. Any objection?

Let the battle begin:
Courtney

To be honest, it's too early for me to be creative with the motivational trash talking, so the best I can come up with is this: I'm going to kick your ass.
Wildman666
from Kentucky is reading Revelation Space by Alastair ReynoldsSeptember 16, 2012 - 5:50pm
@ Sound - If I'm not mistaken you have been battling quite a few people, so if its easier for you time-wise we can do the one I gave you and Courtney. The only reason I'm reluctant is because I started writing one about it anyway just out of boredom (which is pretty long by now) and I don't know if I can think of another story about the same thing that won't suck.
I'm cool with whatever. Just want to submit anything at this point to get some criticism about the way I write in general, which I think would be most effective if someone just threw something random out there to write about.

okay, i haven't written a new story in weeks. i'd like to throw my hat in the ring and say anybody that wants to challenge me, go for it. i'm happy to skip all of the draft nonsense and go straight to the posting in a week or so.
must be somebody i haven't battled before, that's the only requirement.

So I had to add a couple scenes to clear things up a bit and it looks like I'm going to need about a 500 word buffer on the limit. I talked to Sean and he said it was cool. I'm going to try to cut some more tomorrow in hopes that I won't need all 500 words. Is this cool with everyone else? Thanks, Jonathan.
Richard

Yeah, sorry, forgot to check in. I accept your challenge, JY. And the prompt is "He's got the whole world in his hands." Why don't we do it a week from now, say, Sunday at midnight? Let me know if that's okay. Who do we turn our stories into? I'm a little rusty.
Good luck!

Sunday sounds good. If we're doing single round, I suppose the workshop is optional. But if both stories are in the shop, either of us can grab the other's and make the poll. We can figure it out sunday; or we can say whoever is second to post makes the poll.
Good luck to you as well.
Richard
from St. Louis is reading various anthologiesSeptember 24, 2012 - 12:02pm
Yeah, I don't need to workshop anything. You can if you like. I prefer just to get it done and post it up. Has it been a standard procedure to post a draft to workshop and then a final elsewhere? The only individual battle I've done was so long ago, I forget how it worked.
jyh
from VA is reading whatever he feels likeSeptember 24, 2012 - 12:13pm
I think people normally do a week of revisions and then finals go in the poll. I'll probably put mine in the shop just because, but you don't have to. If you make the poll you can upload the file directly and then snag mine from the shop, or you could email yours to me and I'll set up the poll. (But my comment boxes have been sketchy, alternating between allowing options and not, so I might not be able to attach anything after all.)
