I have and use Scrivener for all my projects, but after reading a few articles about other software for PCs, I was wondering if anyone knew of any other apps that I may have missed for Mac users?
I do all my writing on my mbp in vim.
I do most of my writing on my hand.
Why would you look for other programs when Scrivener surpasses most other human achievements?
If you want to talk about "surpassing", I actually prefer to use the typewriter tool in Adobe .pdf format.
INCORRECT, STEP AWAY FROM THE MIC
We can program it in for you, if you have a Mac.
I write everything on my iPod touch via bluetooth keyboard and Office2. Portability and excellent battery life, you just go sort of blind.
I will take the next evolutionary step shortly and begin writing epic novels on my phone. My phone still does everything with 10-key, so you can be impressed not only with my genius but also with my patience.
My phone blows too. I do take notes on it sometimes, though, if I happen to have left the iTouch somewhere. But I use that for basically everything now. I don't really know quite how that happened.
I still sort of use Liquid Story Binder XE when I've "finished" something, but pretty sure that's a practice I'm going to stop. LSBXE/Srivener honestly just overcomplicate everything for me. I do best with simple environments, even though they bore me and I miss the sexiness of something more fun. So at this point it's basically transfer from iTouch, open in OpenOffice, format, done.
That's what I've done, Sound. I wrote my first draft in Google docs (portability) and then copied it over into individual scenes into Scrivener for my revision.
I'm still trying to find good mapping/brainstorm software.
I've kinda-sorta enjoyed using Headspace on my iTouch. I want to say there's a desktop version you can sync with, but I could be wrong. There are a crapton of those mindmapping tools, though. Hard to determine what's better or worse about each one.
LSBXE has some tools of that nature, but very limited.
I may have to check out Scrivener. It does sound neat, and it would be fun to easily swap scenes around in my novel. I'm still working on a... I don't know. I want to say it's a first draft, but it really might not be. I've plotted nothing whatever and am just sort of running with it, and it's been a fantastic experience... but this may end up more a zero draft at the end. More likely a .5, if there is such a thing. So Scrivener might be a cool way to play around with it after I'm "done".
Anyone used it on Windows?
